Across India’s 1,760+ Global Capability Centers, a quiet but powerful shift is underway. A new cohort – the Mid-market GCCs – is steadily rising, now making up 27% of the entire landscape.
Today, over 480 Mid-market GCCs are now operational across India, employing more than 210,000 professionals. On the surface, it’s an impressive statistic. But dig deeper, and you will understand that the real story is “the velocity.” 35% of these centers have been established in just the last two years (FY23–25E). In a world obsessed with speed and scale, this level of momentum from Mid-sized Global Enterprises is a signal worth decoding.
Mid-market GCCs are operating differently, and in some ways, more strategically. They’re 1.3X more likely to be involved in transformation-focused work, and they’re rapidly anchoring critical roles in India, especially in Product Management, where nearly half of the global talent in this cohort is now based out of India.
That’s not a coincidence.
These organizations are leveraging India not merely for cost arbitrage, but for something far more valuable – talent density, innovation velocity, and operational agility. Cities like Bengaluru and Hyderabad have become breeding grounds for this wave, offering mature ecosystems tailored to fast-growing companies. And as government incentives align with private ambition, India is emerging as the go-to choice not just for where to scale, but how to scale smartly.
Even more telling is the kind of work being done. Mid-market GCCs are leaning into DeepTech with a 1.5X higher share of talent in AI, Cloud, Cybersecurity, and Data Science. These are not back offices, they are frontline innovation hubs. In fact, the trend is increasingly toward a “GCC-as-a-Service” model, where Mid-market Firms embed agile, product-led teams in India to drive global transformation from the inside out.
If large GCCs are the established institutions, Mid-market GCCs are fast becoming the start-up engine of India’s global delivery landscape.
Smaller in size but not in ambition, these centers operate with the agility, focus, and velocity that mirrors the very best of India’s start-up culture. And much like the early-stage companies that have redefined India’s innovation narrative, Mid-market GCCs are now doing the same for global capability building.
They’re leaner, flatter, and structurally more open, offering talent direct access to leadership, hands-on involvement in product strategy, and in many cases, a seat at the global table. It’s not uncommon for leaders in these centers to report directly to CEOs and Boards, something rarely seen in larger, layered setups.
And that’s exactly what this report unpacks. “India’s GCC Leap: Powering Global Mid-Market Momentum,” dives into the data and decisions shaping this movement, from talent density and tech depth to agile operating models and the rise of city-level ecosystems.
